The World Food Safety Day is celebrated on 7 June. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organizations. The food we eat is kept safe through the dedicated efforts of everyone who grows, processes, transports, stores, sells, prepares and serves it. Safe food contributes to a healthy life, a healthy economy, a healthy planet and a healthy future. Our food systems must be capable of producing sufficient quantities of safe food for everyone. Recognizing the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future.
This year’s theme, ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’, stresses that production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet and the economy. Recognizing the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future.
On World Food Safety Day, five calls to action are launched
1. Ensure it’s safe
2. Grow it safe
3. Keep it safe
4. Know what’s safe
5. Team up for food safety
